June 16th Night Dance + Jack and Jill
How will this workshop work?
From feedback received from our January competition/performance workshop, we present our "Full-On Competitor Workshop" which will focus on the mock competition feedback that many of you found so valuable!
This workshop will consist of open discussion with the judges panel (to pick our minds) followed by a mock Jack and Jill and a mock Strictly Lindy. Feedback will be given by the judges "American-Idol" style (just not as mean) to each couple.
So if I am not a competitive dancer, can I get something out of this?
Yes! Because competition is first and foremost about the three T's: Technique, Timing, and Teamwork. So feedback to all the competitors will cover these areas and then some. Even if you are not a competitor, you should still take advantage of these "mock" competitions and get real-time critiques from our judges on your dancing.
How this workshop helps you in the long run:
Being able to critique others PROPERLY means you can critique yourself PROPERLY as well.
Getting feedback on your own dancing is ONLY PART OF THE WORKSHOP. By listening to the judges carefully you will also learn how to properly judge dance technique - a valuable skill you can apply to your own dancing for a long time to come (whether that be competitive dancing or social dancing). So it's just as important to watch and learn as it is to get your own personal feedback. So be ready to take lots of notes on:
- judges feedback on your dancing
- judges feedback on other people's dancing
- how well your critiques match up with the critiques of our judges
Register for One Contest, Both Contests, or as a Spectator!
Register for One Contest: and you are entitled to stay the whole day. So for example, if you register for the Jack and Jill, you can attend all day to take part in the discussions and observe/critique the Strictly Lindy mock contest.
Register for Both Contests: You will get to fully participate in both competitions and receive feedback for both competitions!
Register as a Spectator: You can attend and observe the entire workshop and take part in the discussions without having to compete in the mock contests. We will have a limited number of spectator passes available as well!
However you register, you are entitled to attend all day so you more time to take notes, get insight on how to critique properly, and enjoy the spectacle of behind-the-scenes at competitions!
